# 6. View Unread Messages

A count of unread Conversations is displayed within the `mobile submenu` reusable element when the Current User has 1 or more unread Conversations:

![The "Text (Unread Conversations :count)" element within the "mobile submenu" reusable element is shown conditionally when the Current User has more than one unread Conversation](/files/-LHzaSMRUjjHXAFoZbDv)

![The "Text (Unread Conversations :count)" element within the "desktop navigation" reusable element is shown conditionally when the Current User has more than one unread Conversation](/files/-LHzag-O3iv-bI7a3kP4)

The app knows when the Current User hasn't read the newest Message(s) in a Conversation whenever the Current User isn't within a Conversations "read Users" field (type: User, list: yes).

The Current User is added to this field when they read the new Messages in a Conversation.

More information on how this is updated can be found in the Send Message workflows within the **B. View Conversation**, **C. New Message**, **E. New Conversation**, and **N. Remove Notifications** workflow folders.
{% endhint %}
